It’s Good to be Back

So as some may have noticed, my website was down as of late. Not entirely sure what happened, but at some point during my exams something somewhere went wrong somehow and everything died. Fortunately, thanks to the wonderful people at Hostgator, everything was brought back to life after a vast struggle against Ninja and Dragons and an old cat lady.

So what’s changed since I last posted? Well, I finished (and probably flunked, but let’s conveniently forget that bit) second year of College and now find myself in the summer trying to work out an income through finding a job. Failing that, I have freelance writing work to fall back on, though it pays so very, very little. Lots of writers, no jobs. I saw two new movies, Prince of Persia (average, nothing special) and Hot Tub Time Machine (funny, but not amazing). I also have a son.

Ha, kidding. I don’t have a son. I hate children.

So with the summer holidays here in Ireland well underway (marked by fantastic weather, you’d swear we became California overnight) I find myself with lots of time on my hands and nothing to do. Huzzah! I’d love to go on holiday, either to visit a friend in America or head off to Australia to visit family I’ve not seen in many, many years. Just go over for a week or two, have fun, get a tan, fly back and have stories to tell. Nothing overly fancy.

How about all of you? Have you gotten off on your holidays? Are you still stuck in school, work, prison? And a more meaningful and thought-provoking question for you this time: If you had three months off all commitments, and money was no issue, what would you do for your summer holiday?

Still getting the hang of things

How is it that you could be doing something for so long and still do it wrong? Or, well, not it do it properly at any rate. Case in point: college and this blog.

I’m still trying to get into the swing of things in regards to keeping up a schedule and dropping Entrecards, but I’m kind of getting the feeling that I’ve forgotten why I started this blog in the first place, and am just keeping it up for you people. Not that that’s a terrible thing, I’m sure you’re all lovely people, but I don’t quite feel like my heart’s in it right now. I’ll keep posting, just don’t expect me to hold to a schedule. I want it so that when I post each is piece is lovingly crafted with the same care that a dog caresses its favourite tennis ball or rabbit toy.

The main cause for this loss of inspiration is, undoubtedly, my looming college exams. They should be over in about three weeks and then I shall get back to you all on a better basis! Until then, wish me luck!

Stress Levels…rising….

Stress is an exceedingly annoying thing. It makes us feel uncomfortable, small things make us explode, and on the whole it’s a rather unpleasant thing to suffer. It causes massive health problems, generally prevents us from getting our work done which makes us even more stressed….

Tell me folks, what do you do to relieve stress? What stresses you out? Does it effect you in any horrid ways?

I personally try writing a short story, browse the internet or just lay back on my bed and listen to my music when I get stressed. And I am usually stressed due to college/uni work. Namely exams or assignments. My lack of a job or funding also helps increase stress dosages. Can’t say I get any overly negative side effects though, beyond generally feelings of being overwhelmed and just saying “fuck it all” before sitting down to a nice game of Kingdom Hearts 2.

Funny world eh?

It’s over once again

Today marks the last day I shall be attending college this year. One more lecture and one more project to hand in, then it’s down to ye olde studying for the exams. Then (assuming I pass) 3 months of blissful freedom before I return.

I have, to be perfectly honest, been thinking about leaving college. Dropping out, as I believe the ‘cool people’ say these days. I’m just not enjoying my course as much as I thought I would. In enjoy writing code, but considering that coding constitutes roughly one tenth of my overall course, I’m beginning to think I made a bad choice.

Dropping out, of course, brings with it a whole range of new problems. In Ireland, the government provides one course worth of fees free. So if you do a four year course (as I am), you get four years of college fees paid (barring registration fees, accommodation fees, book fees and so on). Now, should I drop out two years into my course and start something else, I will only get two years of the ‘something else’ paid for, and then after that fees shoot up to roughly 30k euro a year. Which I really cannot afford. Which means the only option is to follow in the footsteps of a friend and drop out permanently and try to scratch out a future by myself with my meagre coding skills.

Opinions? How many people here are living a relatively comfortable life without having attended college? Advice is much appreciated, and will actually be considered. I’m genuinely without a clue as to how to proceed along this road. I could use a map from someone, even if it only shows part of the way.

As always, stay safe, dream well.
