Pro-Choice != Pro-Abortion

Pro-Choice != Pro-Abortion

For those of you who don’t understand programming syntax, the symbol != means “does not equal”.

I was part of a debate earlier this month in an online discussion forum. The thread started with someone basically using the rather flimsy argument of “I was the child of a rape. For you pro-abortionists, do I have no right to life?” Pretty much right away I tore the guy a new hole in his body and then proceeded to violate the new hole with a range of sharp implements.

First, we are not “pro-abortion”. We are pro-choice. There is a marked difference. I, myself, am Pro-choice, but that does not mean I think someone should get an abortion for as selfish a reason as “I do not want a child”. People like that give the Pro-Choice movement a bad name (not as bad as the “Pro-Life” people who murder doctors. No siree). That being said, there are many situations when a woman should be allowed choose to have an Abortion. That’s what pro-choice is all about, that women should have the right to choose based on their circumstances and beliefs. Someone who knows nothing about a pregnant women and her situation has absolutely no right to make her decision for her. Pro-choice does not mean “Everyone get an abortion!”. It means that the option should be there when needed.

Take, for example, a child who has a serious birth defect and will not survive long outside the womb. Would you rather have the mother give birth to this child, raise it for a year and then have it die. After she has bonded with it even further by feeding it, nursing it, putting it to sleep? Or if the pregnancy comes with a serious threat to the health of the mother? Should she have to die because a clump of cells has more right to life than she does? In my opinion it’s people who think like that who are monsters. A clump of cells does not have a family, or friends or work colleagues who will mourn its loss. A fully grow woman with a history and relationships does. And I would always put her above something that could not survive outside her body.

And what about pregnancies that result because of a rape? I know, that if I was such a pregnancy and my mother had to be forced togive birth to a living reminder of that traumatic and disgusting event I would not be a very happy child growing up. Some women are strong, yes, but others are not. Can you honestly say that a child of a legitimate act would be treated the same way as a child caused by a gross violation of the mother’s body? If you can, you are deluded, naive and stupid.

Here’s the simple, honest fact of it all people. Prepare thy pitchforks.

By defintion (both medically and in a dictionary) guess what a foetus is up until about week 24? Are you read for this…

I do not believe

I do not believe

I am an atheist.

I’d say, if you followed my blog you would know that by now. But just in case let me throw it out there for the world to see. As a side note, I wonder how many people will look at the picture for this post and scream “NAZI!”, thereby cementing their status as ignorant morons.

I wasn’t always this way. I used to be a good little boy. Always went to church, said the prayers in school and at our Christmas services. I even attended sunday school back when I was living in the Middle East. When I moved back to Ireland I went to a Christian school, learned about religion there, had my communion and confirmation. I said confession every week in church.

It wasn’t until first year of secondary school when I was about 13 that it finally clicked. I all of a sudden realised I didn’t believe in God anymore.

The Obama-Nation

The Obama-Nation

The US election results were waited on with bated breath all around the world. Would it be Obama or McCain? The tension was almost unbearable. And then we found out…Obama was the newest American president. The world rejoiced. Finally we were going to get someone who could really change the world ruling the most powerful nation on Earth. He’s only been in power for a short time, but already he seems to be doing everything he can to get America back in everybody’s good books.

But, as is usual with American politics, there are a lot of unhappy people out there.

Death comes on swift wings.

Death comes on swift wings.

This has been a tough summer. And yesterday my entire life fell apart.Death, as they say, is a sadistic bastard. Okay,  maybe they don’t say that, but I like to think that.

This is long, so click the “More” to read it.

Legends never die in peace

Legends never die in peace

I turn on the television. Michael Jackson.

I turn on the radio. Michael Jackson.

I look at the paper. Michael Fucking Jackson.

Okay, I’m just about sick of it. Yes, the guy was an icon to millions. And yes, he was a very good singer. But dear GOD people, let him go. Tabloids and magazines desperate to leach as much money as is possible off the man’s death are digging up (or making up) facts from his past, or new controversies with his wife/ex-wife/some dude who spoke to him that one time.
