Snow marks the end of civilisation

Ireland never fails to astound me.

For those who don’t know, I live in the the middle of the middle of nowhere in Ireland. And over the past week and a half we have had heavy rain combined with snow. This led to the roads freezing over and half the country shutting down. When the snow arrived, it took them 3 days to grit the roads. And our government was so unprepared, that we are actually running out of the salt needed to make the roads safe again.

An unfortunate side effect of all that snow and strong winds, was the inadvertent failure of my internet connection. Gone, poof. Totally unusable. Normally I would just go to college or a friend’s house, but that’s where the ice comes in. I was so far away from any form of major towns or cities, that they didn’t bother gritting the roads near me, effectively cutting me off from civilisation and the internet, all at the same time. I managed to get on quick tweet out in my desperation, but that was the limit of my contact with the outside world.

Fortunately, however, the internet is now functioning again and we can return to our regularly scheduled broadcast. Given that my last post was a Music Monday, I won’t be making an MM post this week. Two in a row just seems cheap.

I’ll see you all on Wednesday.
