The Obama-Nation

The Obama-Nation

The US election results were waited on with bated breath all around the world. Would it be Obama or McCain? The tension was almost unbearable. And then we found out…Obama was the newest American president. The world rejoiced. Finally we were going to get someone who could really change the world ruling the most powerful nation on Earth. He’s only been in power for a short time, but already he seems to be doing everything he can to get America back in everybody’s good books.

But, as is usual with American politics, there are a lot of unhappy people out there.

Be it the “Birthers” who claim Obama is not a born citizen of the United States (despite overwhelming evidence proving that he is) (also, that video begins addressing an issue I’ll refer to later), or people desperately trying to bring down the Healthcare plan. I know I amn’t America, but in truth I find myself siding with the Democrats more often than not, simply because the Republicans tend to be more annoying. I like Obama, and I’m willing to give him more time to fix the issues he’s been forced to deal with. Two wars, a possible pandemic, a failing economy. Problems like that don’t go away in six months! I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them were still there by the end of his term in office! And yet people jump on them as proof that Obama is a liar and cheat. Because he hasn’t solved every single fucking problem yet, he has failed as President. Yet Bush was hailed as a saint for invading two foreign countries.

You see, there are two reasons people are getting loud and raucous about Obama. First, Bush knew how to use fear to his advantage. Or rather, his advisors did. He terrified the American people by overblowing the threat Al-Qaeda posed. Suddenly every terrorist act, in every country was committed by Al-Qaeda. The sad fact is that terrorism has always been there, and always will be there. But it’s big news right now, so we hear more about it thanks to the Internet.

And the second fact is simple racism. I am convinced that the Republicans are simple unhappy that a black man is President of their fair country and will do anything to discredit him, and – if possible – get rid of him. And I’m not the only one who thinks like this.

I know I’m not American, and I don’t believe in Democracy. So, for fairness sake I should also give the Republicans a voice, and maybe find some of their opinions I agree with, right? Unfortunately I can’t. Republicans annoy me, and every one of them comes across as some asshole who thinks it’s funny to totally blow everything out of proportion because of their own feelings of inadequacy and their own suprressed racism. I know not all Republicans are like that, the problem is that the ones who are nice, respectable people tend to stay quiet. They may not agree with Obama, but at least they’re sensible about voicing their opinion and aren’t latching onto crackpot theories to debunk him.

Simply to show I do try to do research on both sides, the Republican blog I’ve linked to is at least sensible enough not to believe the birthers.
