Can’t we all just get along?

I’m going to give an advance warning here. I’ll be picking on Americans a LOT in this post. Mainly because, when it comes to politics you are without a doubt the loudest group of people ever.

I was reading one blog in particular when the thought struck me of how utterly ridiculous some people can get over politics. Personally, I’ve never seen the point of getting all worked up about it or, for that matter, in voting. To me it seems that no matter who gets elected, or by however large a majority someone, somewhere is going to feel personally insulted. And nowhere is this over-the-top attitude more prevalent than in the good old US of A.

The major divide over there is the whole Republican vs. Democrat war (for lack of a better word). The hilarious thing is that to the rest of the world there is no difference between the two parties. Sure, one might be slightly more peaceful and progressive while another more geared towards “traditional” values and public security. But in America there is no such thing as a Left wing. There’s only a Right Wing and a slightly-less-Right Wing. And the amount of bile they spew at each other is ridiculous. Fortunately some Americans see how utterly farcical the whole thing is. (As a side note, the dude who wrote that is the genius behind a favourite band of mine. Expect one or two of their songs to pop up in future posts).

The fuel on the already out of control fire is the American media, neatly divided between Republican (Fox) and Democrat (MSNBC). Neither of their two largest news stations post actual news. All they do is post little more than biased propaganda for their respective sides. And it’s not even hard to see, it’s painfully obvious. I actually burst my stomach laughing when I watch their shows.

Over here in Ireland we’ve learned to calm the fuck down when it comes to politics. True we did have that little bit of trouble in the North (we don’t like to talk about it. It’s the Brits’ faults anyway. I kid, I kid). But still, America. Seriously? Look at you. You’re so quick to condemn the actions of someone simply because they aren’t wearing the same colour badge as you. Not to mention that you seem to absorb the beliefs of some guy you have never met because he happens to go to the same rally’s as you. I’m laughing here America.

And let the politically fueled hate mail come.
